Here’s a poem from the archives…
“the Truth”
I tell them the truth your eyes
No need for miracles
Light speaks in your smile
All 14 ½ pounds of me and your mother
The sacrifice of farmers of fishermen of sharecroppers
You wear halos in your iris
Fingerprints patterned in drum beats
You sing hymns with your grandad in heaven
Speak moon-dust gibberish to me
Laugh
Fold your hands constantly to remind folks
That you are the closest to God they will ever be
Made me believe the lessons my mother taught me
Lessons I will teach you
Character is not what you have
It’s what you share
Dignity is not a practice
It’s your standard
Thoughts make you human
Love makes you better
Truth
Is the only thing in life worth pursuing
And you
Are the reason repentance is victorious over karma
Why second chances are so popular
You are the answer to a prayer I’ve been too afraid to pray
Truth be told
I’ll never be as good a father as you will be a daughter
But I promise not to hold you back

Dear Anthony, I love this poem. Thank you. It was good to meet you last week at the conference. What a lovely tribute to your baby daughter!
take good care,
